US–UK Trade Deal at G7 Summit

Ottawa, Canada — June 16, 2025 — In a major transatlantic breakthrough, President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer today signed a landmark US–UK trade agreement at the G7 summit in Canada, slashing tariffs and unlocking billions in bilateral trade.
Dubbed a “historic moment” by both leaders, the deal eliminates US tariffs on British steel and aluminum and cuts car tariffs to 10% for up to 100,000 UK-made vehicles annually. In exchange, the UK will lower import barriers on American beef, ethanol, and other agricultural goods, in what Trump hailed as a “fair” and “America First export strategy.”
“This is a done deal,” Trump declared during the joint announcement. “It’s fair, it’s strong, and it puts American farmers and manufacturers in a position to win.”
Prime Minister Starmer echoed the sentiment, calling it “a very good day for Britain, for jobs, and for global trade.”
Key Provisions:
-
🇺🇸 Tariffs on British steel and aluminum: 0%
-
🚗 Car tariffs: reduced to 10% on first 100,000 vehicles/year
-
🌽 UK market access: expanded for US beef, ethanol, and key agricultural exports
-
💼 Projected impact: billions in new export opportunities and job protections across both nations
The deal signals a new era of post-tariff partnership between the two economic powers and marks one of the most comprehensive bilateral agreements signed by either nation in recent years.
More details are expected as implementation begins.
