Society of the Snow” Keeps Winning International Awards

One Year After Its Premiere, “Society of the Snow” Keeps Winning International
Awards
A year has passed since Society of the Snow took the world by storm — and yet, the wave of recognition hasn’t stopped. The lm, directed by Spanish filmmaker J.A.
Bayona, premiered on Netix in late 2023 and quickly became one of the most talked-about movies of the year. Based on the real-life tragedy of the 1972 Andes light disaster, it tells the chilling and deeply human story of the Uruguayan rugby team whose plane crashed in the mountains, forcing them to survive under unimaginable
conditions.
More than just a survival tale, Society of the Snow explores the emotional and ethical struggles of a group pushed to the limits of human endurance. What makes this film stand out is its authenticity: the actors are mostly unknown, the dialogue switches
between Spanish and Rioplatense Spanish, and the raw cinematography immerses viewers in the freezing silence of the Andes.
Since its premiere, the movie has been showered with nominations and awards —
from the Goya Awards to an Oscar nomination, and several wins at lm festivals across Europe and Latin America. And a year later, it’s still collecting accolades. Just
recently, it won Best International Film at the São Paulo Film Festival and received special recognition at the Tokyo International Film Awards for its outstanding direction
and ensemble cast.
The fact that Society of the Snow continues to win awards a year later proves that this is not just a film — it’s an unforgettable experience. It’s a tribute to resilience, to the power of unity, and to those who never gave up when the world had already counted
them out
